After Vandal Doughnuts closed shop in Gus’ Pub, one of Halifax’s favourite watering holes on the corner of Agricola and North Streets, Taco Lina’s has filled the space (and the stomachs) of North Enders. Owners Sam and Tony Rinaldo, who also run Rinaldo’s Italian American Specialties and the hot dog pop-up at Good Robot Brewing, saw space in the area for a taco shop featuring tacos, nachos, jalapeño poppers and salads.
Ocean Supercluster receives super boost from feds
Friday morning’s press conference in St. John’s made public the federal government’s $153-million commitment for the Atlantic region’s ocean supercluster. The network of ocean-related companies and researchers — aptly named the ocean supercluster — are coming together to generate new ocean tech and promote innovation amongst startups and the federal funding will be matched by private investment. The supercluster is projected to provide 3,000 more jobs in Atlantic Canada and add $14 billion to the Canadian economy over the next decade.
P.E.I. nurse opens barber shop in Wellington Centre
Well Razed, the new barber shop in Wellington Centre, opened its doors November 6, operating out of the home of former nurse Darren Bulger. After 25 years of working as a nurse, Bulger has swapped the nurse’s station for his in-home barber shop at 93 Sunnyside Rd. after learning his craft at the Grafton Barber School of Excellence in Dublin, Ireland.
Newfoundland golf course enters receivership
Terra Nova Resort & Golf Community located just outside Clarenville, N.L. has announced it is in receivership. The resort — which consists of two golf courses, a hotel and rental chalets — has been taken under control of BDO acting on behalf of the Business Development Bank of Canada who is owed $3.3 million. Whether or not the course will open next season is unknown.
