The University of New Brunswick has announced the faculty of business at their Saint John campus will be offering courses on cannabis, set to begin this summer. The survey course offered in intersession 2019 will explore the cannabis industry. UNB’s tourism and hospitality program will also offer a course on cannabis tourism with an emphasis on cannabis tours.
Freshii announced for YYT
St. John’s International Airport Authority announced on Thursday, April 25 that there will soon be a Frehsii near gate three, past security. The location will be owned and operated by local Freshii franchisee Michelle Pye along with business partners Paul Mercer and Dave and Susan Petten. This is the third location in Newfoundland and Labrador for the health-focused fast-food chain — the 673 Topsail Road location opened in 2015, while the 70 White Rose Drive Freshii opened in March of this year.
Planet Hatch announces inaugural Sales Accelerator Program
The Fredericton-based startup accelerator has announced the first participants for their new program focused on the sales industry. The five Sales Accelerator Program participants will receive $25,000 in funding to support business development, as well as sales training from industry experts. The 2019 cohort consists of A. Parrill & Associates (women-led executive coaching), SimpTek (an energy efficiency software company), HomeWurk (an app that connects students to odd jobs), Educated Beards (a veteran-owned beard grooming company) and E.T. Mechanical (an HVAC, plumbing and electrical service company).
Federal government approves controversial mackerel trap in N.S.
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans has approved the much-debated commercial mackerel trap in a popular recreation area of St. Margaret’s Bay. Harvester Gary Burchell was granted a two-year license to install a 180 metre-long trap on the tip of Micou’s Island with the goal of harvesting 45,000 kg of mackerel between May and July 2019. Locals say the trap is not conducive to recreational boating and swimming in the popular spot.
Charlottetown chows down at new Indian restaurant
Bombay Cuisine has opened at 339 University Ave. in Charlottetown. The Indian restaurant opened to the public on April 13, serving up an array of traditional Indian dishes ranging from samosas, pakora and paneer tikka to chicken tandoori and lamb korma. Owner Bindeshwer Mandal moved to P.E.I. 11 years ago with the dream of opening his own eatery after decades of working in kitchens in India, Toronto and Halifax.
